Howdy and welcome to Southern Feast! My name is Mike Morgan, and I have lived in the south for most of my life. My food philosophy is simple: The best way to get to know someone is by eating with them. I also believe that simple is better in most cases. Here I explore southern food and travel. I offer my takes on some classic southern recipes, and some not so classic. When the opportunity presents itself, I travel for the sole purpose of dining. There are some great food communities in the south, and I will share my road adventures with you.
I grew up in a military family, and moved to the south at an early age. Both of my parents were from the south, by the way. It was through them that I began to explore food and cooking. I have attended several cooking classes and retreats, but I hold no formal degree. I also have cooked professionally for a time, and owned a business cooking for folks in their homes as a personal chef.
Currently I live in Virginia along with my BFFF (Best Feline Friend Forever), Ezri. She enjoys watching me cook, but absolutely refuses to eat people food. She prefers the gourmet cat food at twice the price. Think she is spoiled? Tell me it isn’t so.
My inspiration is sharing the fun of cooking, food travel and the culinary wonders of this life. After all, no matter our background we all love to eat. Why not join me in this adventure, and together maybe we can learn a thing or two, and laugh along the way.
I hope you enjoy Southern Feast as much as I enjoy posting to it. If you have comments or suggestions I would love to hear from you. Please feel free to contact me, and I will get back to you.
If you would like to keep up with my sometimes irreverent, but always joyful prose and recipes please sign up for my newsletter and email list. As Emerson said, “It’s not the destination, it’s the journey.” Come on along for the ride, ya’ll. See also Ezri’s Page
